"Contemporary art can challenge, inspire and inform. It shouldn’t be confined to just museums and galleries, By bringing art to where the people live their daily lives, we hope to connect with as wide an audience as possible" -- Livia Straus, President and co-founder of the Hudson Valley Center of Contemporary Art.
The Peekskill Project, a citywide site-specific exhibition of cutting-edge contemporary art, was launched in 2004 with the goal of bringing contemporary art out of the museum and into the community. The public arts festival presents a wide variety of painting, sculpture, photography, installations, video and performance art by national and international artists selected by a juried committee of renowned curators. Work by over 100 artists are selected from an elite curatorial committee which are sited in storefronts, parks, and in vacant lofts and lots around our city

With the world going ‘green’ and curiosity converging on the impact of human consumption and squander, Price Tower Arts Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma is initiating a conversation through art about the environmental impact of today’s society. The exhibition entitled, Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things, will explore the new world of object reassignment, presenting creative repurposed or ‘upcycled’ objects that both stretch the imagination and suggest how to reduce the impact on the environment. From repurposed puzzle pieces on wallpaper to oversized photographs showing the massive disposal of cell phones, this exhibition makes the audience pause in a moment of awe and personal reflection. This inaugural exhibition is a part of Price Tower Arts Center’s new Triennial exhibition series, appropriately dubbed 3-logy (pronounced trilogy), which will examine international contemporary artwork produced or manufactured in the last three years.

Hi all Miwa and I have been invited to participate in the annual kite making day at Socrates. We'll be showing everyone how to make the shopping bag kites. The goal is to get as many shopping bags into the sky as possible to come on down!
From the Press Release:
Long Island City, NY (March 10, 2008) : Socrates Sculpture Park and The Noguchi Museum are proud to present the sixth annual kite making workshop and flying event. This free hands-on workshop will take place at Socrates Sculpture Park and welcomes children of all ages to participate. This year, children and their families will find an excellent new use for plastic bags by transforming this durable, and light weight material into beautiful recycled kites! Kite designs are provided by artists Miwa Koizumi and Marco Scoffier who will draw inspiration from the Park's fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline. Miwa will be creating a few new flavors for her NY Flavors Ice Cream Stand during this festival of all things food and performance. There are rumors of a possible Lower East Side (lox and bagels) ice cream creation.
Echoing the experience of a New York street
scene, we present a variety of smells, sounds, and sights,
co-existing and competing for attention. Familiar objects, from
ice cream to cookbooks, are presented in new and unexpected
ways. As street vendors offer exotic twists on common products,
screenings of artists' food films and a display of artists'
cookbooks complete the carnival atmosphere.
Tickets include admission to Experimental Cuisine Collective panel on Mon April 14th @ 4PM or to Food/Art Roundtable on Tue April 15th @ 6PM
